Amazon becomes multilingual… at least in Germany
To make it for international customers easier, Amazon Germany was in 2016 the first local Amazon site in a non-English speaking country that offered a full English translation. While the website itself, including the support pages, was fully translated, product descriptions are still often only in German when they are offered by local German sellers. Despite this, shopping at Amazon.de has become a lot easier for non-Germans without the language barrier. Amazon.de became a central Amazon site for customers in neighboring countries.
A couple of years later, Amazon also launches Turkish, Czech, Polish and Dutch translations of Amazon.de (Dutch link).
The same strategy is applied by Amazon for Portugal: there is no local site for Portuguese buyers but sinds 2020, the Spanish site is translated in Portuguese. There is no English version of Amazon.es (yet?).
Amazon France, UK and Italy only speak one language.
