Amazon France stops Black Friday by corona

Amazon is dropping out of the Black Friday advertising campaign because of the impact of the strict lockdown on traditional stores. The French government therefore does not consider the promotion campaign fair to small shops that are badly affected by the corona crisis.

According to The French State Secretary Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Amazon France’s large advertising spending is not appropriate at a time when some 200,000 French companies are on the brink of bankruptcy. The lockdown in France will certainly last until 1 December and means that all non-essential shops and restaurants are closed.

While many companies in countries like France go bankrupt, the online store reports record sales. Amazon’s revenue would exceed $100 billion (nearly 86 billion euros) for the first time in the fourth quarter.

Amazon indicated that it would stop broadcasting radio commercials to promote Black Friday sales.

Amazon has also removed all references to Blackfriday from the website and replaced them with a list of products from local French companies.
